The document comes after the definition of the Group's first Sustainability Plan based on three pillars: people, nature and local communities
Human Company has been glad to up its Sustainability Report for 2023. It represents the Group's first formal non-financial reporting document, a milestone that marks the beginning of a structured approach to monitoring and improving environmental, social and governance performance. For Human Company, developing a responsible business is an intrinsic commitment to the values and principles that have always defined its identity. Inspired by these, the Group is committed to developing and spreading the idea of regenerative tourism, which requires harmony between the well-being of people and nature. With this in mind, the company has started a process aimed at monitoring and improving its sustainability performance, including evaluating the company's social and environmental impacts and defining a long term strategy involving every area of the company.
The presentation of the first report is part of the Sustainability Plan 2023-2027, a commitment that is fully integrated with the business plan and defines the company's governance mechanisms, strategy and sustainability targets. This plan, developed with the active involvement of all areas of the company, is underpinned by the enhancement of three fundamental pillars: nature, local communities and people. The main pillars are based on these areas of commitment of the Group (aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda) and the goals which will be implemented over the five-year period. The Sustainability Plan and Report come in a crucial year for the Group, marked by significant growth in terms of both revenues, which will exceed 160 million euros at the end of 2024 with an 11% increase on 2023, and in terms of people, which will reach over 4 million.
Fundamental activities of the sustainability report
The Report anticipates the CSRD regulation, whose requirements will be in force from 2026, and adopts the GRI standards, the main international benchmark for ESG reporting to ensure transparent and rigorous reporting. For its drafting, Human Company conducted a materiality analysis to identify the most relevant issues related to the company's work and the best practices already launched in 2023. These practices focused on respecting the well-being of people, environmental protection and supporting the enhancement of special territorial features. The Report then focuses on the objectives and improvement actions planned by the Group in these areas, including the use of innovative technologies to improve its sustainability performance.
-People's well-being
For Human Company, human capital is the fundamental pillar that generates value on a daily basis and drives entrepreneurial activity. Precisely for this reason, the company places top priority on people, promoting the well-being of both employees and guests. With particular regard to workers, the Group implemented numerous initiatives during 2023, including numerous training courses and professional growth paths, the adoption of D&I practices and procedures to prevent any discrimination and the creation of a safe and inclusive work environment.
-Environmental protection
The environment is an essential element for Human Company: in addition to representing the natural environment in which hospitality activities take place, it is also a determining factor in guaranteeing the quality of the experience offered to guests.
To demonstrate its commitment to protecting the environment, the Group has therefore identified the areas with the greatest environmental impact which require urgent action, focusing on innovative solutions to reduce their energy footprint (with photovoltaic systems and IoT for monitoring the consumption of mobile homes as well as the adoption of accommodation solutions made with eco-sustainable materials), improve energy efficiency (also actively involving their guests, for example in the field of electric mobility), preserve water resources (exploiting extraction wells and installing internal purifiers) and encourage responsible waste management (with recycling and recovery programmes for non-hazardous materials).
-Enhancement of special territorial features
For Human Company, the link between its sites and the territories where they are located is of crucial importance; for this reason, the company is committed to supporting the socioeconomic development of local communities through collaborations to promote craftsmanship, agriculture and cultural traditions by organising workshops, themed days and spin-offs of festivals as well as concentrating on food and beverage by exploring local products.
-Use of innovative technologies
For the Group, the adoption of advanced technologies and the implementation of digital solutions will not only improve the guest experience, making it more seamless and memorable, but also help to promote sustainable practices. A distinctive example is the concept of smart villages, which redefines the outdoor experience by combining innovation and nature to ensure that guests enjoy a sustainable and participatory stay. In this vein, during 2023 Human Company adopted beacon technology which, by connecting to accommodation keys, allows guests to automatically turn off air conditioners when guests they leave their mobile homes, thus reducing consumption. Furthermore, the company is taking its first steps towards Digital Twin, an innovative solution that creates a digital duplicate of hu openair sites allowing real-time monitoring of consumption and optimisation of resource management.
“We are proud to present our first sustainability report, which is not only a collection of data and objectives, but also looks back over our evolution and our commitment to a more responsible future. Our mission is to make every stay an opportunity to connect with nature and local communities, while always staying mindful of the well-being of our planet. In this sense, our budget represents a solid promise: building regenerative tourism that celebrates beauty, culture and a return to the essence of nature. This philosophy guides everything we do every day and embodies our commitment to leaving a positive and lasting impact. This is why we are formally committed to sustainability goals that span the entire spectrum of our operations” affirms Mattia Rosati, Chief Corporate Services Officer of Human Company.
